Begin Transaction
A transaction is a sequence of operations performed as a single unit of work. It ensures that either all operations are executed successfully (commit) or none are executed (rollback) to maintain data integrity.
Begin Transaction marks the beginning of a new transaction. All the database operations that are enclosed between Begin and Complete Transaction are treated as a single transaction (single unit of work).
1. Purpose of Begin Transaction
✔ Ensures atomicity → All operations within the transaction succeed or fail together.
✔ Maintains data integrity → Prevents partial updates in case of failures.
✔ Defines transaction scope → Allows controlled execution of database operations.
2. Steps to Add a Begin Transaction Construct
Step 1: Drag & Drop the Construct
- Open the Logic Flow Designer Canvas.
- Drag and drop the Begin Transaction construct into the flow.
Step 2: Configure Properties
Double-click the construct to open its properties panel.
- Configure the required properties:
- Follow the below steps to add the Begin Transaction construct in a logic flow:
| Property | Description | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| Label | Labels help developers quickly understand each step in the logic flow without examining the details of the construct. | It is recommended to provide a simple precise label that improves the logic flow readability. |
| Transaction Scope Name * | Defines the transaction scope name. | Mandatory. |
| Transaction Scope Option | Transaction Scope Required: If an existing (ambient) transaction exists, it joins that transaction. Otherwise, it creates a new one.RequiresNew: Always creates a new transaction, regardless of whether an ambient transaction exists.Suppress: Ignores any existing transaction. Any database operations inside this scope execute without a transaction. | Default is Required. |
| Comment | Determines if the construct is ignored in code generation (Yes/No). | If Yes, the construct is skipped. |
Note: An asterisk (*) denotes that the property is mandatory for adding the Begin Transaction construct.
Step 3: Save the Configuration
Click Save to finalize the settings.
The Begin Transaction construct ensures safe execution of database transactions within a logic flow. By using the right transaction scope option, users can control transactional behaviour for data consistency and reliability.
